Facilitators and Managers Questions

What is the maximum number of learners that can connect to the Beekee Device?

Up to 25 devices connected at the same time. The Beekee Device is an ideal solution for small / medium-sized groups who require access to a Learning Management System (Moodle) or other resources without an internet connection. This said, hundred of learners can have accounts and use the Beekee Device on a daily basis, but only 25 devices connected simultaneously.

The Beekee Device is experiencing slow performance

Try these following solutions to improve the device's performance:

  1. For best connectivity, place the device (mobile/tablet/computer) within 10 m (33 ft.) of the Beekee Device and make sure there is a clear line of sight between you and the Beekee Device. Moving your device farther away, or not having a clear line of sight will impact connectivity – the devices may disconnect from the Beekee Device.

  2. If you are using the Beekee Device where other wireless networks exist, check that the WiFi channel used by the Beekee Device is not overloaded - ask the local IT administrator to verify this. If so, try changing the WiFi channel in the settings of the Beekee Device.

  3. Limit the number of connected devices: The Beekee Device has a maximum capacity of 25 simultaneous users connected to its wireless network. If there are too many connected devices, this may cause the device to slow down. Limiting the number of connected devices can help to improve performance.

The box appears to start (the green LED flashes), then it turns off by itself

The Beekee Device requires a minimum level of charge in its battery to complete the boot-up process and prevent data corruption. If the battery is insufficiently charged, the device may not fully boot up or may turn off after only a few seconds.

To resolve this, ensure that you use the provided power charger and connect the Beekee Device to it for at least 15 minutes to charge the battery before attempting to turn on the device. This will ensure that the battery has sufficient charge to complete the boot-up process and operate properly.

The Beekee Device turns off immediately when the power charger is unplugged or the battery status LED remains red even while charging

If the Beekee Device turns instantly off when the power charger is disconnected or if the battery status LED remains red even while it is charging, it is likely that the battery is not properly positioned or that it is defective.

Please contact us for further assistance in resolving this issue. It's important to note that the Beekee Device can still be used without a battery, but it's essential to turn it off correctly to avoid losing any data. However, we strongly recommend resolving any battery issues as soon as possible to ensure proper functioning of the device.

The Beekee Device does not turn off by pressing the button for 5 seconds

If you encounter an issue where the Beekee Device does not turn off by pressing the button for 5 seconds, please be aware that forcing the device to shut down could potentially cause damage to your files. Therefore, please ensure that no one is using the Beekee Device before attempting the following procedure:

Hold down the button for 20 seconds. Wait five seconds and try turning it on again. If you still experience this problem after trying this procedure, please contact us for further assistance.

The displayed time is wrong

If you notice that the system time displayed on your Beekee Device is wrong, there might be a problem with a small battery inside the device that keeps the time. Although this battery should last for several years, it may need to be replaced depending on the environmental conditions where the device is being used. If you encounter this issue, please contact us for further assistance in resolving the problem.

How often should I charge the internal battery of the Beekee Device and how long does it take to fully charge?

We recommend charging the internal battery of the Beekee Device as soon as the battery level drops below 20% to ensure uninterrupted operation. The charging time for the battery will depend on the current source delivering power to the device: using the provided power charger and cable, it takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge the battery. However, if the current source delivering power provides less than 2 Amps, the charging time will be longer.

How can I change the default password for the BeekeeBox WiFi network?

  1. Connect your device to the BeekeeBox network.

  2. Open a web browser and type beekee.box

  3. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) and enter your manager/admin username and password.

  4. Locate the WiFi settings and click on the Name or Password fields to change them.

After changing the WiFi password on the BeekeeBox, please be aware that it may take a few moments for the new network’s name and password to update. Once the BeekeeBox has restarted and the new password is applied, you will need to reconnect your device to the newly created network using the updated password.

Can I use the Beekee Device in outdoor environments if I protect it from rain or moisture?

Although the Beekee Device is not water-resistant, it can be used in outdoor environments if it is adequately protected from rain or moisture. However, please be aware that continuously exposing the device to water or moisture can potentially cause damage to the internal components, which may impact its performance and lifespan. We strongly recommend taking precautions to protect the device from moisture, such as using a bad, waterproof case or cover when using it outdoors.

Is it safe to leave the Beekee Device connected to a power source for an extended period of time, such as several days or weeks?

Yes, the device is designed to function with a constant power supply, and it has a built-in battery that acts as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that helps prevent data loss in case of a power outage. However, we recommend periodically checking the device to ensure that it is functioning correctly and to avoid potential issues that may arise from extended use.

What should I do if I accidentally spill liquid on the Beekee Device or if it gets wet due to environmental conditions?

If the Beekee Device comes into contact with liquid due to accidental spillage or environmental conditions, immediately turn it off and disconnect it from the power source. Do not attempt to turn on the device until it has completely dried out.

To dry out the device, remove the battery and any other external components, and wipe it down with a dry cloth. Leave the Beekee Device in a dry and well-ventilated area for at least 24 to 48 hours to allow it to completely dry out. Once the device is completely dry, reassemble it and attempt to turn it on. If the device does not turn on or if it is not functioning correctly, please contact us for further assistance.
